#Plastober Challange 2020

I participated in the #plastober Challange.
In this article I want to share my thoughts and give insights to some of these pictures I drew.
The gist ist every day there is a promt and you “have to” draw something based on that word. This promt list had some extras: Every wendsday was a day off. And Week 2, 3 and 4 had superthemes.
I'll append all tweets for the prompts at the images. You can follow me but don't expect any images in the near furture!

The list of prompts is available here:

Day 01: HEART

I bought myself aseprite for this challange. So day 1 was the first time using this programm. I had a lot to learn...
But working with aseprite was a bliss and using it was quite intuitive. But still I started small.
I like this in perticular because I can use it as an emoji which is nice.

02: MOTH

Still not so familiar with aseprite I tried something more difficult. I started with rough shapes and refind it step by step.

Day 03: DEADLY

I did not have great idea and the only thing I could think of was a skull. But after experimenting a bit a came up with a little animation. Plus now I got a skull emoji aswell.

Day 04: PRISON

This day I had an idea which was somewhat obvious. Nonetheless, I think I turned out great. The thumb is quite janky but I like it.
And I made a stupid gif...

Day 05: QUEEN/KING

This week's supertheme was NATURE STRIKES BACK
(no that's not the Star Wars Movie).
I loved this supertheme. Having ideas according to this theme was the most fun out of the themes.
So the idea was a crown overgrown by some ivy. I think this image has potential, but I didn't have enough skill. I like the "main blue gem" and the "main red gem" also I love the small leafs, but the large leaf is awefull. All in all it is an OK image.

Day 06: DESERT

This is one of my favorit, if not the favorit image from the challange. It is simplistic but yet if checks all boxes. And the supertheme is worked in aswell.
It is simple and the contrast and colors works better than in my other images in this challange!

Day 07: Sparkling

I had a hard time comming up with something to draw with this prompt. In the end I wanted to draw a glittering / sparkling ocean.
The sparkling effect didn't work out as I planned, but I like the image nevertheless.

Day 09: FOX

“I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end it doesn't even look like a fox.”

I think this summerises it well. The proportions are of and some other things turned out not like I imagined. Tweet!

Day 10: WIND

I like this image it gives me a "lofi radio backgournd picture"-vibe.
I think the sky and the gradient turned out well. The stylised clouds add a certain falare to it.
The supertheme is worked in with the windmill gernerating "green" energy. Maybe I come back to this some thime and animate the windmills we'll see.

This is one of my favorites as well!

Day 11: FIGHTING

On this day I had zero creativity and no idea what to draw with the prompt FIGHTING, but I can still copy common methapors.
The resulting image is nice, so I see this as an absolute win!

Day 12: BRIGHT

Day 12 marks the beginning of a new week and thus a new supertheme: HIGH TECH, LOW LIFE or in other words Cyberpunk. Well thinking about Cyberpunk and bright I thought about old retro themed highway with a bright, stylised sun.
The outcome was not as bright as I hoped.

Day 13: SCHOOL

Nothing to see here move on ...
Ok, this is by far the wors of all my images. You can't recognize it is a school and the supertheme is also not worked in.
It just looks wonky. It isn't even filly on the image... Uff.

Day 14: MONEY

I had no great idea, so I drew the fallout money (even if fallout is technicly not cyberpunkt... but I don't care). Because I had some spare time I drew the Bitcoin logo aswell, not sure why but it workes I guess. Neither turned out awesome but rather alright and the bottle cap isn't easy to recognize.

Day 16: LAMP

This one I like a lot. It has not really something to do with HIGH TECH, LOW LIFE, but the asthetics are great.
The Background is simple and clear with a nice gradient. The flickering light gives a nice athmoshere. And the transparent glass works better than I thought. The only thing which is bugging me is that the perspective isn't right for the one bus stop posts. I didn't see this while painting... Oh well it is still a nice picture/GIF.

Day 17: WEEKEND

Well I based on a reply on the LAMP post I wnated to try another lighting method. So I drew myself I in a dark room coding...

Day 18: FAITHFUL

While thinking about the prompt FAITHFUL I thought of a ring and that's the reason I drew the ONE ring to rule them all. Also, the subscription look nice!

Day 19: GENTELMAN

Day 19 marks the beginning of a new week and thus a new supertheme: FACES. Drawing faces is hard, so I mostly ignored the supertheme...

I resycled the skull from day 3. I gave him a monocle, a moustache, a top hat and voilà a wild gentelman appeared!
The thing I like most is the G on this top hat if it wheren obvious enough that he is a gentelman.

Day 20: PRISTRESS

I had a vision for this prompt, but I found it dificult for me to realize it. Drawing faces is hard.
So I googled a bit and found my inspiration.
I think with the reference I managed to capture my vision quite well, still faces are hard to draw.

Day 21: WANDERER

Well I tryed to convert the beautiful picture: "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" by Caspar David to pixel art.
I would not say it was a failure because how derpy he looks but calling it a succses would be too much. Important is I like this image!

Day 23: ACE

Ignoring the supertheme I drew a hugly original image a playing card. The GIF is really nice and the desigh with the skull is great too.

Day 24: CRAZY

It is the joker. And again faces are hard, but if their coverd in paint it is a bit easier. I like the hair and I kinda don't like the hair besides that he looks better than expected!

Day 25: GASOLINE

I had a silly idea and I drew it. That's it basicly. The "Hades" pixelart turned out great.
The gas tank was just for the prompt.

Day 26: SHELL

Day 26 marks the beginning of a new week and thus a new supertheme: DAILY ADVENTURES.

Well I drew Squirtle because with Pokémon you can have daily adventures and I had no better idea. I like the reflections in the shades.
The Squirtle Squad has a new member.

Day 27: FEMALE

Well I for sure had some adventures playing Samus Aran so this was an easy fit for me. I drew her in my favorit suit the "Fusion Suit". The proportions and the shades are not quite correct nonetheless I like this image.

Day 29: Oversized

Who hasn't seen a dog carring a stick which is way too large for him.
I have to say that I'm proud of the shading done in this picture. All in all I can say this is also one of my favorits.

Day 30: EXPEDITION

Since we know so little about the deep sea I saw this as a perfect opportunity to draw an expedition in the deapth. I like the fading red lights from the submarine. I also made the choice not to fade out the light of the main lamp. I think the sea monster workes better this way.
This also could be a spaceship and space monster who knows?

Day 31: HUNT

First I only drew the primal hunter. I left him faceless because you know: Faces are hard!
After I thought about what he should hunt I had the idea to resycle some of my previous images and so this masterpice came to be. I like how silly it is, it is also part of my favorites.
That he is hunted by samus in the end is just perfect!

And that concludes my #Plastober 2020. I had a lot of fun and learned Aseprite in the meantime. It was somwat stressful to dedicat 1-2h every day to drawing picture and I will be honest I was glad when it was over. Nonetheless, I plan to participat next year as well!
